Back for the second year the Inkcubeko Yethu/Italian Art Day organized by the Centro Luigi Di Sarro with Rainbow Media NPO and Ubuntubethu NPO at the Tsoga Centre. On March 24, 2018 in the community centre of Samora Machel in Philippi, Cape Town, Italian and South African art will meet to give life to a day of cultural dialogue.
The event is organized with the contribution of the Consulate of Italy in Cape Town and will offer the participants the opportunity to discover the vibrant art scene of the township in a succession of performances on stage and video projections inside the Tsoga Centre.
The Italian Art Day ideally closes the sixth edition of the ARP-Art Residency Project, the bilateral programme of artistic residencies dedicated to young artists, created by the Centro Luigi Di Sarro with the contribution of the Maeci-DGSP Scambi Giovanili and with the collaboration of the Everard Read/Circa Gallery. The Italian Art Day, promoted also this year by the Consulate of Italy in Cape Town, intends to add to the exchange experience that the 4 young artists – participants in the ARP residencies in 2017/18 – played between Rome and Cape Town, an opportunity for a broader dialogue with the local creative scene, creating a bridge between the many souls of the Mother City.
Samora Machel is a vibrant community, that gathers people from various parts of Africa, where the spirit of friendship and collaboration has never failed, and the community centre is the best example of this.
In the courtyard of the Tsoga Center, will find a stage for musical performances, an arena for traditional dances, a gazebo and a refreshment area with drinks and pizza slices (organized thanks to the participation of Thomson Reuters Global Volunteer Network). Media partner of the event is Iqhayiya FM, the community radio of the township that Rainbow Media supports since its inception, which will ensure the live performance of the fest on the 91.7 frequency.
